The Sage Gateshead in Newcastle upon Tyne is a wonderful contemporary concert hall hosting an amazing  array of great events. This weekend it will be hosting the SummerTyne Americana Festival 2016 bringing all the folk and country music of the U.S.A. across the pond for us to enjoy in Northumbria. Taking place on the 22nd to the 24th of July the festival should be a great day out for all the family, or just for fans of the music genre in general.

Kicking off with an exciting transatlantic double bill of two of the hottest young acts to break on to the scene in the past two years, with an exclusive appearance by Nashville’s Striking Matches and the UK’s Ward Thomas. There will be a party on the Saturday night headlined by vintage and rockabilly queen Imelda May. Also present, two of the Americana scenes most influential and award winning singer songwriters, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Gretchen Peters.

Across the rest of the weekend, there will be something for everyone. Indoors there are many hidden gems for the Americana aficionados including rare appearances by Texas’ favourite country duo Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison plus Brennen Leigh & Noel McKay, New York’s dazzling new folk pioneers The Mike + Ruthy Band and Gill Landry from Old Crow Medicine Show. There’ll be dazzling bluegrass styling’s from Ron Block (Alison Krauss and Union Station) with mandolin protégé Sierra Hull and a highly anticipated bluegrass rework of The Who’s rock opera ‘Tommy’, by The HillBenders, plus the raw, authentic blues, soul and southern rock of The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Lucky Peterson and The Kentucky Headhunters.

The festival should prove to be as great a success as in has been in previous years. If you’d like to stay with us at Eshott Hall Hotel while you enjoy the festival or would like to stay with us during any of the events The Sage Gateshead will be putting on in the future please contact us to book rooms in our hotel.
